Florence + the Machine

Florence Leontine Mary Welch (born 1986) grew up in Camberwell, South London and is the eldest of 3 children.

Having been passionate about music from a young age Florence attended arts school and was heavily involved in the Camberwell party scene.

Florence has developed a bluesy sound that also contains strong elements of rock and soul genres.

Occupying a similar space to peers such as Amy Winehouse and Kate Nash, Florence has quickly became extremely popular and has received high praise from music critics, especially within the BBC where she had a lot of exposure through BBC introducing.

Managed by the Queens of Noise, Florence and the Machine usually consist of a solo guitarist and drums accompaniment.

Florence and the Machines album Lungs was released in the summer of 2009 reaching #2 in the UK CD charts and has gone on to be one of the top selling albums of 2009 and 2010 to date.
