Jamie T doesn't write music for his fans and claimed that other musicians shouldn't explain the story behind their songs.

(BANG) -

Jamie T doesn't care what other people think of his songs.

The 'Sheila' hitmaker insists he is only making music for himself and hates people talking to him about the meaning behind his tracks as it "ruins" the lyrics for him.

He said: "You've got to understand that I don't write music for anyone, I write it for myself and that's it. And I don't have to speak to anyone or answer to anyone, about anything, because it's for me.

"I know what the f**king songs are about, but I don't care to talk about it, because they're quite personal to me. I've written the song. I've done my piece.

"I'm not sitting here trying to pour my heart out. I'm just jumbling things up and throwing them at the f**king page. I'm not trying to represent anything. I haven't got a f**king manifesto here, y'know? I'm not trying to explain things to people. Whatever you think it's about, it's about.

"No - I f**king hate it when musicians sit there and tell you what a song's about. I don't wanna hear what your story is. You're ruining my story. The one I've made up in my head. Why are you telling me? I don't wanna hear it."

The 'Calm Down Dearest' singer also admits he finds it amusing when people think he has used them as the inspiration behind his songs.

He told Quietus.com: "Someone said to me once, 'Ah you know this guy I know' and obviously that guy's been out there telling his mates I've written a song about him. F**king liar.

"I tend to leave mates' names out of songs anyway - it's mean isn't it?"

British singer Jamie T plans to start a covers band with his friends so he can have a break from writing music.

(BANG) -

Jamie T is to start a covers band with his friends.

The British singer - who kicks off his rescheduled tour next month after postponing it because he was ill with laryngitis - plans to get together with two of his childhood pals and perform as a covers group so he can have a break from writing music.

He told BBC 6Music: "I seem to spend a lot of time talking about starting a covers band at the moment, which I'm thinking of doing with a couple of friends. We've done a lot of music over the past year, we've written a lot and I think we are coming to the end of a phase of that I suppose.

"Maybe it's time to stop writing for a bit as strange as that sounds sometimes you need to collect your thoughts a bit before writing so I think a covers band might be fun.

"They're all mates that love music at the moment, just close friends of mine."

However, the 23-year-old 'Sticks 'n' Stones' singer doesn't expect to record with the new group but hopes to perform several "fun" live shows.

He explained: "I think we're just going to play some shows. I think it's just more for the sake of having fun and going out and playing it. I don't think anyone's got any ideas that big about recording them."

Jamie was forced to postpone his 2009 shows after he fell unwell during the Australian leg of his tour in September.

'Sticks 'n' Stones' singer Jamie T was forced to cancel his tour after getting laryngitis from shouting too much during his live shows.

Jamie T got laryngitis because he was "shouting too much" on stage.

The 'Sticks 'n' Stones' singer - who was forced to postpone his 2009 shows after he fell unwell during the Australian leg of his tour in September - has revealed his sore throat was caused by being too loud during his shows.

He told BBC Newsbeat: "I lost three quarters of my vocal range - I was shouting too much when I was playing live.

"I was told not to speak to anyone who wasn't in touching distance for about two months."

After recovering with friends in New York, the 23-year-old star insists he is feeling much better and has thanked his fans for their support.

He said: "It wasn't really that dramatic; it's been frustrating not being able to do anything - thankfully all the fans have been patient and supportive of us taking this time off.

"I just like writing songs and making albums. I like my life and my privacy. I don't like putting myself out there too much, it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. I certainly like writing music and that's as far as it goes, I don't have an urge to be recognised."

Jamie is due to kick off his rescheduled shows in December.
