Synopsis
Nora Ephron adapts Julie Powell's autobiographical book JULIE AND JULIA: 365 DAYS, 524 RECIPES, 1 TINY PARTMENT KITCHEN with this Columbia Pictures production starring Amy Adams as an amateur chef who decides to cook every recipe in a cookbook from acclaimed celebrity chef Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) in order to chronicle it in a blog over the course of a year. Julie (Adams) is a writer stuck in a soul consuming job at a call centre for the victims of 9/11. To escape this grim reality she turns to Julia Child’s famous book MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING, with the intention of bringing to life any of its recipes. Julie’s new hobby is definitely uplifting but so absorbing that she ends up by neglecting her husband (Chris Messina). Julie’s story then interweaves with Julia’s one - the renowned chef (Streep) is in fact caught during her permanence in France in the late 1950s, a moment that marks a pivotal point in the development of her culinary skills as well as the burgeoning of her passion for French cuisine. Streep's DEVIL WEARS PRADA co-star Stanley Tucci re-teams with the actress as Child's husband.
