Starting off as a young Sim taking his first steps in the world, Sims 3 - Generations lets players take their creations through every stage of their lives, slowly growing and learning from each new experience. After the colourful world of childhood comes the drama of the teenage world, eventually leading players into the responsibilities of adulthood. New activities are available for each age group, including playing in tree houses, pulling off pranks and even suffering a mid-life crisis.

Major events from the Sims world are played out as players progress, such as throwing a teenage party when the parents are away, attending a high school graduation, drinking during a bachelor party and preparing for a wedding. Thanks to a new Memory system, the major life moments of each Sim are easy to relive and reminisce about.
