Synopsis

The House of the Dead is given a grindhouse revival in SEGA’s reboot of the zombie-infested light gun shooter franchise.

SEGA’s House of the Dead series has always been primarily an arcade venture, only moving to consoles through remakes, most notably with The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return on Wii. Originally arriving on Nintendo Wii, The House of the Dead - OVERKILL sees the series move to PlayStation 3. Taking its inspiration from the recent explosion of Grindhouse-style, B-movie horror films, OVERKILL gives the light gun game a horror overhaul, adding a film reel flicker to the visuals and keeping its style firmly tongue-in-cheek.

With the fast-pace of the arcade now firmly behind the series, The House of the Dead - OVERKILL expands on the quick thrill formula of older titles, escalating the gameplay and making the zombie experience more in-depth. Varied types of weaponry can be used throughout each themed level, with shotguns and pistols both on offer. Slow-Mofo Time allows players to slow down proceedings and take time lining up their head shots.

The House of the Dead series makes a welcome return to home consoles and, with PlayStation Move in hand, is light gun-ready out of the box.
