Synopsis
Another of Nintendo’s classic GameCube games is given the remake treatment in this Mario tennis title.
After the success of New Play Control! Pikmin, Mario Power Tennis makes its way to Nintendo Wii with the added benefit of the Nintendo Wii Remote. The Mushroom Kingdom is once again hosting a tennis tournament for its citizens, with a wide selection of famous faces making their way to the court, including Bowser, Peach, Donkey Kong and Mario. With swings and serves now controlled with Wii Remote gestures, Mario Power Tennis feels much like an updated, star-studded version of Wii Sports.
Outside of the brand new control scheme, the title itself stays much the same. Character specific power-ups and over-the-top moves all retain their Nintendo vibe. More powerful characters Bowser and Donkey Kong have more strength on the court but less agility, whereas characters such as Mario and Luigi are far lighter on their feet. Stadiums are heavily influenced by the Nintendo world, with themed courts such as Luigi’s Mansion and Peach Dome.
New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis keeps the fast-paced feel of the original title in place, updating the controls and introducing Mario’s unique brand of tennis to a whole new audience.
