Synopsis
Sonic has headed back to his speedy routes in his first outing on Wii, Sonic and the Secret Rings.
Sonic has moved away from the lightning-fast, on rails style of his older titles in previous years, opting instead for a more traditional adventure style of gameplay. Sonic and the Secret Rings takes Sonic back to this original notion of speed over exploration, using the Wii’s unique controls to do so. Sonic has a wide selection of new skills at his disposal, over 100 of which can be collected throughout the single player mode.
In Sonic’s adventure mode, Sonic is controlled using the Wii Remote titled on its side. The controller is then shifted from side to side to move Sonic from left to right across the screen. The action keeps its pace by placing Sonic into tightly constructed environments that move the action forward on rails. Fans of the original 2D Sonic titles will feel at home with this new scheme.
Sonic and the Secret Rings manages to bring Sonic’s fast-paced antics into the 3D era without sacrificing what made the original games so enjoyable. With innovative new controls and original new level designs, Sonic can only get better.
