The original Assassin’s Creed was a brave step forward for adventure games, taking players away from the comforts of contemporary-set action and placing them into the brutality of the Holy Lands as part of the Third Crusade. Although a direct sequel to the first in the series, Assassin’s Creed II moves forward to 15th century Italy, letting players explore the renaissance cities of Florence and Venice. Learning of his assassin pedigree after his family is betrayed, players take control of young Italian noble, Auditore da Firenze, during his quest for vengeance.
With Assassin’s Creed II’s new storyline comes a greater emphasis on perfecting skills. Learning the ways of the assassin from the ground up, players can now use new weaponry and stealth moves to engage enemies, ripping weapons from their hands to use against them. A greater level of freedom allows players to tackle assassin missions when they choose, with a far more varied selection ensuring gameplay never grows stale.
Assassin’s Creed II expands on the original’s grand scope, giving players more freedom to explore detailed Italian cities and tackle the varied missions when ready.
