Synopsis

The Halo series looks back to its roots in this fully-fledged prequel to Bungie’s science fiction shooter juggernaut.

Since first arriving on the original Xbox, the Halo series has gone on to be one of the most important first-person shooters in gaming. Halo 3 finished Master Chief’s struggle against the Covenant, but Halo - Reach looks back to the start of this conflict, putting players into the shoes of a new Spartan solider on Earth’s planet Reach colony. With this new environment comes a more sombre and gritty tone for the series, using its enhanced engine to create sweeping vista more in keeping with the original Halo.

This change in the timeline also means that Halo’s most iconic villains - the Elites - make a welcome return to their more menacing and threatening stance. The tight and responsive gunplay the series is known for has been tweaked to suit the darker tone Halo - Reach creates. Halo’s multiplayer has also been refined, and players can now choose from a variety of armour abilities that drastically alter gameplay, including jetpacks and sprinting.

Halo - Reach gives Halo the atmosphere and tension the series deserves, returning to the epic vistas and open gunplay the original handled so well.
