The series that invented the modern day shooter returns to a supernatural World War II where the Nazi’s latest experiment threatens to turn the tide of the war.

Wolfenstein 3D was a true pioneer for the first-person shooter, popularising the genre and creating many of the gameplay elements still used abundantly today. Though simplistic by today’s standards, many of the shooters players know and love simply wouldn’t exist without its paranormal foundations. Return to Castle Wolfenstein revisited the series with a more up-to-date style, and the latest Wolfenstein follows much the same path, taking place in the year 1943. With Hitler’s Third Reich now down on its knees, the Nazi’s are forced to turn to an occult known as the Black Sun to form their monstrous creations.

Visuals may have been given a much-needed overhaul, but the feel of the Wolfenstein world still remains intact, with detailed Nazi castles and gritty large-scale battles combined with the colourful paranormal enemies on offer. Players also have a new ability at their disposal: the Veil, which forms a dark alternate reality where time can be slowed down.

Wolfenstein 3D will always be remembered as the game that changed first-person shooters, and this latest rendition is a faithful addition to the treasured franchise.
