Synopsis
One of the original Xbox’s most celebrated first-person shooters is given a second release alongside an original Riddick storyline in this recreation of the classic adventure.
Originally released beside the Chronicles of Riddick film, Escape from Butcher Bay is still considered one of the most notable first-person shooters of recent years, not to mention one of the few games based on a film that is arguably better than its source material. Rather than simply remaking the original title for a new audience, Assault on Dark Athena gives players both the original title and a completely new storyline to play through, as well as online multiplayer features.
Although Assault on Dark Athena has the everyday trappings of a first-person shooter, much of the combat requires a mix of styles that force the player to work for carefully placed stealth kills, as well fight in all-out gun battles. With Vin Diesel once more providing the voice for Riddick, the dark and looming atmosphere of both the original game and film are firmly in place.
Many Riddick fans would have been pleased to see a simple remake of the original Butcher Bay. Instead, Assault on Dark Athena completely reimagines the Riddick world with a huge collection of content both old and new.
